The picture illustrates the Max-Blast method of action:
Upon detonation the expanding gasses impact the plug and it begins to fold into itself. This process of folding expands the plugs diameter - creating a positive seal in the borehole. You can clearly see in the plug recovered after use that the Max-Blast accordion design folded on the annular rings and prevented the intense explosive energy from passing up through the stemming material.
